11delVino Association

The 11 del Vino association was founded in Cecina in 2006 with the goal of bringing together communities across Italy, from north to south, through two passions we all share: good wine and soccer.

Together, these two elements can contribute to the growth of wineries, enabling these major players in various regions of Italy to promote themselves independently, collaborate with one another, and foster a genuine culture of drinking well and responsibly.

The direct promotion of members’ products was combined with soccer matches, and little by little, what had started as a bet among friends took on a significant European dimension.

In addition to the Italian national wine-growers' team, those from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Hungary have also joined the ranks.

On July 1, 2018, together with representatives from the other seven countries, the Union of European National Winemaker Soccer Teams was established, giving the various initiatives an increasingly international scope.

The 11 del Vino association already includes prestigious wineries representing major Italian wine-producing regions, but our goal is to grow even further and provide many other producers with opportunities to enter the European market.

The initiatives

We organize a European soccer championship every two years, featuring members of the Union of European National Soccer Teams of Winemakers; we host events both in Italy and abroad to promote the culture of fine wine; and we collaborate on important projects for winemakers with the universities of Pisa, Maribor (Slovenia), Gelsenheim (Germany), Brno (Czech Republic), and Lisbon (Portugal), with the primary goal of fostering sustainable production and organizational practices.

The University

The “Undici del Vino” association has entered into an agreement with the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Agro-Environmental Sciences at the University of Pisa to promote and establish national and international exchange networks among businesses, research centers, and universities.

A specific Erasmus program has also been launched, immediately involving Germany’s Hochschule Geisenheim University, which is already a partner of the “11.”

The agreement calls for promotional initiatives in the field of soccer and the enhancement of the professional skills and expertise of those working in the wine industry, particularly in the area of communications.

More specifically, the goals of the partnership between the University of Pisa and the “11 del Vino” association are to promote a culture of quality wine and responsible drinking, to foster production and organizational innovation with a focus on sustainability, and to strengthen the connection between wine production and the local region.

These initiatives involve, at the European level, not only the University of Geisenheim but also the universities of Brno in the Czech Republic, Lisbon in Portugal, and Maribor in Slovenia.

UENFW

On July 1, 2018, the Union of European Winemaker National Soccer Teams was established in Slovenia, bringing the various initiatives of individual countries to the international stage.

The UENFW is an association under German law, with founding members from eight European countries who aim to combine wine, soccer, and education to transform them into a shared cultural resource in Europe.

At the time of its establishment, the association included Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Portugal, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany.

The UENFW is based at Geisenheim University.

Every two years, national soccer teams—made up mainly of renowned winemakers—play in the VINOEURO.

This year, the UENFW European Wine Championship will take place in the Czech Republic from June 1 to 4, 2022. If you’re part of the wine industry and are interested in participating in VINOEURO:
